May in Ashgabat traditionally competes for the title of the most musical month of the year. The concert season is reaching its peak: theaters delight with premieres, and performers experiment with genres, transforming concert venues into sound laboratories. However, on May 17, music lovers can expect a particularly exciting event at the Turkmenistan Cinema and Concert Hall: the "Latin Concert." The name alone promises a sultry evening, but what really lies behind this intriguing title?

Latin American music was perhaps the most powerful and life-affirming discovery for world culture in the last century. The whirlwind of samba, the passion of rumba, the sensuality of tango, and the explosive energy of salsa didn't just conquer dance floors. Latin American rhythms, along with a unique array of brass and percussion instruments, forever changed symphony orchestral scores, becoming an integral part of the compositional thinking of contemporary composers around the world.

This music is the fruit of a unique historical synthesis, fusing the genetic codes of three continents. Its authentic, pre-Columbian layer, harking back to the great civilizations of the Aztecs, Incas, and Mayans, brought with it the archaic sound of brass and percussion instruments. African tradition added incredible rhythmic polyphony, dynamic intensity, and a spirit of improvisation. And European Creole culture, a direct descendant of Spain and Portugal, provided the melodic sophistication and harmonic foundation on which, for example, Argentine tango grew.

In this melting pot, a new, striking synthesis emerged, in which African influences became the leading rhythmic pulse. Habanera, bolero, guaracha—these genres swept the world, blurring the lines between street carnival and academic halls. The originality of Latin American music lies in its equal familiarity on the cobblestones of Rio and within the walls of a conservatory.

For Turkmen artists, the "Latin Concert" project is more than just another performance, but a bold creative challenge. It's an attempt to create a vibrant, pulsating story on stage, where every beat demands a response, and the line between stage and audience should disappear in a single flow of energy.

"We want this evening to be a source of inspiration and a discovery of something completely new for every audience member. We strive to convey the energy of optimism and joy for which Latin American carnivals are renowned," the project organizers emphasize.

Popular performers Dovran Shammyev and Maysa Niyazova will serve as leading guides into a world of passionate rhythms. They have prepared a rich program in which each number is a complete story about love, passion, and the joy of life.

But the evening's biggest surprise is the fusion of the arts. The "Latin Concert" won't be limited to music. Dynamic and visually impeccable dance numbers will create a truly festive atmosphere. Rumba, salsa, and, of course, tango performed by professional dancers will transform the evening into a full-fledged artistic performance, where body movements will continue the musical phrasing.
