President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay Yamandu Orsi praised President Xi Jinping as a leader with both visionary leadership and humanitarian spirit in an interview with China Media Group (CMG) released on Friday.
Orsi gave the interview in Shanghai during his first state visit to China from Feb 1 to 7, coinciding with the 38th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
"I must admit that a large part of my understanding of Chinese society and President Xi Jinping's leadership stems from my numerous in-depth conversations with former Uruguayan President Jose Mujica, who admired President Xi Jinping heartedly. We have been deeply influenced by Mujica in shaping and developing our political ideas, which has allowed us to understand the distinctive character of the Chinese people and appreciate more profoundly what makes President Xi exceptional. This has encouraged us and guided us to adopt a longer-term perspective," he said.
"In today's world, decision-making often focuses excessively on immediate results. Yet when we read President Xi's writings and speeches and study his governance philosophy, we can sense a far-sighted vision grounded in the future and in a new global landscape. That is something I can always perceive in him. In addition, his strong humanistic spirit gives his leadership a deeply personal dimension," said Orsi.
