Traffic police department in Hefei, the provincial capital of Anhui in east China, officially launched its first dedicated drone delivery route for motor vehicle license plates on Friday.
On Friday, a six-rotor drone took off from the Hefei Municipal Public Security Bureau and landed at a local new energy vehicle experience center.
Staff retrieved the license plate package from the drone's compartment, verified it with the owner, and quickly attached the plates to the brand-new vehicle.
The experience was a pleasant surprise for Zuo Dengjing and Wang Qin, a couple from Xuancheng City who came to Hefei to buy new car. Thanks to the drone delivery service, the process for vehicle registration and plating was streamlined to one hour.
"We were really lucky to enjoy the convenience provided by modern sci-tech," said Wang Qin.
"I never expected the license plate to come so soon, with the drone delivery. It's incredible," Zuo Dengjing added.
The successful maiden flight marks the beginning of a pilot phase dedicated to new energy vehicles. Hefei's traffic authorities will gradually expand the service, further integrating low-altitude logistics into daily life.
"Residents only need to complete the plate number selection and payment through the Traffic Management 12123 App and then wait for the delivery of license plate. This drone route is unaffected by ground traffic jam and can achieve rapid delivery within one hour," said Hua Xiaoyan, a police officer.
