*More than 45 countries now eligible for visa-free entry, sparking surge of international visitors*
As reported by CCTV+, during the five-day May holidays, China saw a sharp rise in inbound tourism, reaching its highest post-pandemic level. This is due to the expanded visa-free policy, which now covers citizens of 45 countries, including Canada and the UK, and has been extended until December 31, 2026.
From April 30 to May 5, over 100,000 people crossed the Vietnam border at Hekou in Yunnan Province. Hunchun — the only land entry point to Russia in Jilin Province — recorded its busiest week since 2019.
Ancient cultural attractions also became very popular. The historic city of Xi'an received a large flow of visitors. Foreign tourists climbed the city wall, tried on traditional Chinese costumes, and participated in cultural events.
An Italian tourist shared his impressions: "When I came to China, I realized it's beautiful, it's truly amazing." A Turkish tourist added: "China is one of the few countries that combines cultural values with modern challenges. You are teaching the world new technologies, new life, and new approaches."
