Xiaomi Challenges Apple with a New Smartphone Series
16.09.2025 | 15:30 |According to Bloomberg, Xiaomi is preparing to directly compete with Apple in the premium smartphone segment. To do this, the company decided to skip the Xiaomi 16 series and launch the new Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max lineup later this month. This move is meant to align the model numbering with Apple’s current iPhone lineup.
Xiaomi’s founder and CEO Lei Jun stated that the company wants its products to be compared with Apple devices, which are considered the benchmark in the market. The company’s president Lu Weibing added that this step is part of Xiaomi’s “premiumization” strategy, which has been in progress for five years.
Analyst Bryan Ma from IDC confirmed Xiaomi’s confidence, noting that 10% of the smartphones the company shipped to China in the first half of the year cost more than $600.
Xiaomi’s confidence is also reinforced by its recent success in electric vehicle manufacturing, which led to a sharp rise in the company’s stock. Now, after achieving success in a new industry that Apple eventually abandoned, Xiaomi is once again ready to compete directly with the American company in the smartphone market.
