President Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in mourning ceremonies at the Halk Hakydasy (People's Memory) Memorial Complex in Ashgabat.

The head of state laid a wreath at the Ruhy Tagzym (Honoring the Spirit) monument, commemorating the victims of the catastrophic night of October 5-6, 1948, when the earthquake claimed the lives of more than 170,000 people and devastated the capital.

The President also laid a wreath at the monuments “Milletiň ogullary” (Sons of the Nation) and “Baky şöhrat” (Eternal Glory). The President also laid a wreath at the "Milletiň ogullary" (Sons of the Nation) and "Baky şöhrat" (Eternal Glory) monuments.

On this day, Turkmenistan remembers not only the victims of the natural disaster but also the unparalleled fortitude and heroism of its fellow countrymen, demonstrated, in particular, on the frontlines of the 1941-1945 war.

This national memory also includes a personal example: The President's great-grandfather, Berdimuhamed Annayev, a respected teacher and educator who demonstrated heroism on the battlefield and died during the 1948 earthquake.

Turkmenistan, paying tribute to the memory of its sons and daughters, reaffirms the steadfastness of its peace-loving and neutral course in the international arena. The memory of the older generation is reflected in specific actions aimed at strengthening peace and the progressive development of the state.
