Ashgabat-Dubai, January 3 | ORIENT. Dubai has recently become the epicenter of global politics, hosting the World Government Summit (WGS 2026). Turkmenistan is not just a participant at this forum, but also an initiator of new global standards. During a busy working visit, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov presented the country's vision for the future global order and held a series of meetings with key partners from the UAE.

Global Tribune: 2028 as the Year of International Law

Speaking at the session "The Future of Global Alliances," Rashid Meredov outlined Ashgabat's fundamental message: the world needs "predictability and openness." It was emphasized that Turkmenistan has officially proposed declaring 2028 the Year of International Law. This initiative calls on the international community to return to the primacy of the UN Charter and respect for mutual interests.

During his speech, specific mechanisms for developing partnerships were outlined, including effective governance, expert knowledge sharing, and unlocking the economic potential of countries through connectivity.

The economic component of the visit focused on the gas sector. Talks with the head of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, confirmed the strategic nature of the partnership. The parties discussed the progress of ongoing projects and outlined new directions in the gas industry.

An agreement was reached to hold regular technical consultations. This is an important signal for the market – cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UAE energy giant is becoming systematic and consistent.

A meeting with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan cemented the success of the Turkmen Foreign Minister's visit. The diplomats noted mutual support within international organizations and discussed a plan of political events for the current year.

Turkmenistan's participation in the WGS 2026 demonstrates the country's ability to combine its commitment to the traditions of neutrality with a commitment to innovative governance. The proposal for a "Year of International Law" and close collaboration with ADNOC demonstrate that Ashgabat is today an active player shaping both the legal and energy architecture of the future.
