Karachi attack: three soldiers killed, all terrorists eliminated
At least three Pakistani paramilitary Rangers soldiers were killed and several other security personnel wounded in an attack by armed assailants on a paramilitary Rangers transport facility in the southern port city of Karachi on Saturday, authorities said.
When terrorism knocks at the gates, the response must be swift and resolute. The tragedy in Karachi is yet another reminder that the fight against extremism requires not only weapons but also vigilance, coordination and courage. Five terrorists failed to achieve their goal — they were stopped at the approach. But the price was the lives of three soldiers who stood guard.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening when a group of terrorists rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the main gate of the paramilitary Rangers building in the Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi. According to a statement from Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), vigilant security personnel stationed at the entrance spotted the suspicious vehicle and immediately engaged the attackers in a gunfight. All five terrorists were killed in the exchange.
Immediately after the incident, Pakistani forces deployed special security units, counter-terrorism teams and additional paramilitary Rangers to the scene. A clearance operation was conducted using drones, metal detectors and explosives detection equipment to eliminate any remaining threats. Police sources said the attack was claimed by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a splinter group of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.
Pakistan's paramilitary Rangers are a key internal security force involved in counter-terrorism operations. The Gulistan-e-Johar area in Karachi is one of the city's densely populated districts. Jamaat-ul-Ahrar is a radical splinter group that broke away from the Pakistani Taliban in 2014 and remains active in the region. The attack was thwarted thanks to the rapid response of security forces, which prevented mass civilian casualties. Pakistan continues to be one of the countries most affected by terrorism, and such incidents occur regularly in major cities.
As reported by CCTV+, the clearance operation has been completed, the area is under control, and the investigation is ongoing.
