A team of Australian weightlifters is preparing to compete against opponents from Asia and Oceania at the Games "Ashgabat 2017". The average age of the six Australian weightlifters is 22 years, including notable athletes and Australian champions Brandon Wakeling (69 kg) and Jakob Marquardt (94 kg). The youngest and most experienced athlete in the team is Ridge Barredo (21 years, 105 kg) - bronze medalist of the 2015 championship among juniors in Pune, India. At the Oceania Championship in 2016, he lifted an impressive 300 kg, and in subsequent tournaments improved his result to 315 kg. - I saw a video about the objects built in Ashgabat for Asian Games and they all conform to international standards, so Games should be fantastic! - Ridge Barredo said in one of his interviews. - This will definitely be the biggest competition in which I participated in my entire sports career! In the same weight category, together with his fellow countryman, Matthew Lydement (23), the silver medalist of the Australian championship this year, will contest for the medals of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. The Games "Ashgabat 2017" will be an international debut for 22-year-old girls Sofia Zudova (75 kg) and Jacqueline Franken (69 kg), for which a tournament of this level will be both an examination for skill and a reward for the previous hard work. Competitions on weightlifting in Asian Games in Ashgabat will be held on September 18-25.
