Power agencies of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan discussed security problems

The first meeting in the framework of the Uzbek-Afghan joint commission on security issues was held in Tashkent. Representatives of law enforcement agencies of the two states discussed issues of combating terrorist and extremist threats, suppressing the arms business, drug trafficking, laundering of proceeds from crime, and other challenges of our time. The sides noted the relevance of the wider use of political and diplomatic means and regional partnership in the Afghan processes. Turkmenistan was among the first to declare the impossibility of solving the Afghan problem by military means, arguing for the settlement of the situation in the neighboring country exclusively by political and diplomatic means. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in public speeches repeatedly stressed that the negotiation process between the opposing forces in Afghanistan should be accompanied by assistance to the country in restoring the economic and social infrastructure. So, according to Ashgabat, the country's involvement in the implementation of large infrastructure projects of regional importance will help to establish peace in Afghanistan. That is why the Turkmen side initiated the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway, the power transmission line, the fiber optic line and a number of other projects. Finally, Turkmenistan offered its political space for inter-Afghan talks on the settlement of the situation in the country. At one time, the holding of inter-Tajik talks in Ashgabat facilitated the resolution of the conflict situation in Tajikistan.
