Greenhouse production becomes an attractive platform for Turkmen business

In the Aktepe district of the Dashoguz region, another high-tech greenhouse which to intend for growing tomatoes, was put into operation, Rysgal newspaper reports.
The construction of the facility with an area of one hectare was carried out by “Zemin achary” Individual Enterprise using advanced greenhouse technologies. Special equipment purchased from the Turkish partners of the company will allow maintaining optimal conditions for growing vegetables all year round in automatic mode.
The first batch of products will be distributed through the Dashoguz distribution network, which will increase competition in this segment of the market and, as expected, will decrease the price of greenhouse tomatoes in the region, where it is slightly higher than in all other regions of the country. The short-term plan of the company is to expand sales through the nationwide distribution network, and long-term plan is export abroad.
For the construction of greenhouses in the Aktepe district, the state granted a few hectares of land to private enterprises. In January, the entrepreneurs have received the first crop of vegetables in one of the greenhouses, recently built here, with an area of two hectares.
Turkmen tomatoes, which were 80 percent out of total vegetable exports last year, are in demand in the markets of Kazakhstan, Russia, UAE, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. On the whole, the supply of Turkmen vegetable products increased by 2.1 times in 2017 compared to 2016.
On the eve of the New 2018 Year, Turkmen entrepreneurs started to export of tomatoes to Kazakhstan and Russia. The main suppliers were the “Altyn Gala Gurlushyk” Individual Enterprise and the “Daihan Sarpasy” Farm.
According to the State Statistics Committee, in January this year, 1,302.7 tons of vegetables were produced in Turkmenistan, which is more than 2 times more than in the same period in 2017. This became possible due to the expansion of greenhouses. Just in Lebap region, nine greenhouses, each for 880 tons of vegetables per year were built.
Greenhouses to grow seedlings of ornamental trees and flowers are also being built. In 2017, three new “gardens under the roof” with an area of 85 hectares in the suburbs of Ashgabat were put into operation. In January 2018, not far from the capital, in the Ak Bugday district of the Akhal region, another similar complex with an area of 10 hectares was commissioned. Hardwood and softwood trees, perennial and seasonal flowers will be planted in the greenhouse. The greenhouse will allow growing more than half a million plants per year.
