Tokyo to Hold a Meeting of the Turkmen-Japanese Economic Committees

On August 17, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Japan, Atadurdy Bayramov, met in Tokyo with Yoshinori Kanehana, the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Japan Business Association (ROTOBO), who also chairs the Board of Directors of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. The parties discussed bilateral partnership objectives and joint steps to expand trade and economic cooperation.
A key item on the agenda was preparations for the 16th meeting of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japan-Turkmen Economic Cooperation Committees, which will be held in Tokyo from December 14–16, 2026. The previous, 15th joint conference was held in Ashgabat in December 2024.
During the talks between Atadurdy Bayramov and Yoshinori Kanehana, special attention was paid to projects in the circular economy—a new high-tech area of bilateral dialogue. Japan has traditionally been a key technology partner for Turkmenistan, having implemented a number of major industrial and infrastructure projects in the country in the energy, transport, and gas chemical sectors.

The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), together with ROTOBO, has planned a special online session for Japanese businesses on August 28, 2026, dedicated to investment agreements and mechanisms for deepening economic ties with Central Asian countries. The explanatory meeting of relevant METI departments is aimed at stimulating new business initiatives and providing legal support for investment projects in the region.
