Turkmenistan's garment enterprises develop practical garment costing skills
From 25 to 26 August, a two-day practical workshop was held in Ashgabat for representatives of small garment enterprises, tailoring studios and designers from Turkmenistan. The programme covered garment costing and the use of costing data to support effective management decisions. The event was organised by the International Trade Centre (ITC) under the European Union-funded project ‘Turkmenistan: Enhancing Trade Resilience and Integration’.
The workshop brought together representatives of more than 20 companies and entrepreneurs from the garment sector. Participants learned how to calculate the cost and profitability of individual orders and compare planned with actual costs. They also explored ways to reduce costs without compromising quality, including more efficient use of materials, streamlined production processes, investment in equipment and staff training.
Training case studies were tailored to the specific operating context of local garment enterprises. Through practical exercises, participants prepared cost calculations for sample orders, analysed the causes of cost variances and identified ways to use their workforce more efficiently. The knowledge gained will help entrepreneurs plan production more accurately and make informed decisions to grow their businesses.
The workshop formed part of ITC's ongoing efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises in Turkmenistan and expand their opportunities to access regional and international markets.
The European Union-funded project aims to support economic development and decent work in Turkmenistan by improving the business climate and strengthening the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises. It will promote Turkmenistan's participation in regional and global trade, including trade with the European Union.
