Brazil celebrated Independence Day with a grand military parade in the capital
Independence Day is more than just a date on the calendar – it is a symbol of national sovereignty and unity. Every year, Brazilians gather in Brasília to honour their ancestors and show pride in their country. The military parade becomes a spectacular embodiment of the nation’s strength, history and culture.
On Monday, Brazil marked the 204th anniversary of its independence with a large scale military parade in the capital Brasília, commemorating the proclamation of independence from Portugal in 1822. The event was attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and other senior Brazilian government officials.
The military parade lasted about two hours and featured performances by the Brazilian Army, Navy, Air Force, as well as police and fire brigade units. The parade included marching formations, armoured columns, cavalry units and an impressive air force display.
“Today we celebrate our sovereignty, our independence and our pride in being Brazilian – our culture, our achievements and everything that being part of this country represents,” said Carlos Eduardo Alves, one of the spectators. “This is a public expression through which we show our love for the homeland,” added João Bruno Dias, another spectator.
This year’s parade was dedicated to themes of national sovereignty, protection of women and children, and Brazil’s role as host of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. According to the presidential palace, about 70,000 people watched the parade.
