The Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the US Expand Professional Exchange Programs for Legislators
Improving the national legal framework, exchanging expert experience, and intensifying inter-parliamentary ties were the key topics of a meeting between Dunyagozel Gulmanova, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, and Kristin Hawkins, Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy.
During the discussion, the parties highly valued the dynamics of bilateral cooperation across political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres, highlighting the practical importance of specialized educational and professional initiatives for young leaders and lawmakers. Particular emphasis during the talks was placed on the successful implementation of study visits for representatives of the Turkmen parliament under the "Open World" program. This initiative, funded directly by the U.S. Congress and administered by the Congressional Office for International Leadership, serves as a unique platform for the legislative branch to exchange best practices in public administration, parliamentary digitalization, and the rule of law.
The head of the Mejlis expressed appreciation to the U.S. side for organizing these specialized internships and advocated for the continuation of joint projects that facilitate the adoption of international best practices in parliamentarism and the lawmaking process.
