On September 9, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union, Luc Pierre Devigne, who presented his credentials to the head of state. The envoy conveyed warm greetings to the President and the National Leader of the Turkmen people from the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

During the conversation, the parties noted the dynamic nature of the partnership, which is evolving in the wake of the first EU–Central Asia Summit—an event that elevated the region's ties with the European bloc to the level of strategic cooperation.

Priority areas for practical cooperation were identified as energy, renewable energy sources, digitalization, environmental protection, and leveraging the potential of the Trans-Caspian transport corridor to access European markets.

Commenting on the meeting outcome, Ambassador Devigne—who possesses extensive experience with the European External Action Service and the Directorate-General for Trade—highlighted the significant alignment of positions between neutral Turkmenistan and the European Union regarding the peaceful resolution of global conflicts based on international law. He also reaffirmed the EU Delegation in Ashgabat’s commitment to transforming shared interests into concrete economic and investment projects.
