Turkmenistan to Host CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Session for the First Time
In the autumn of 2026, Turkmenistan will host a session of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (CIS IPA) for the first time. Preparations for these autumn diplomatic events were discussed at a working meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, attended by Dmitry Kobitsky, Secretary General of the CIS IPA Council, and representatives of relevant national agencies.
Hosting the inter-parliamentary forum in Turkmenistan follows an initiative by National Leader of the Turkmen People, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which was announced by Dunyagozel Gulmanova, Chair of the Mejlis, during the Assembly’s plenary session in May.
The main events of the autumn assembly are scheduled for November 19–20, 2026. These days will feature a meeting of the CIS IPA Council, the 61st plenary session of the Assembly, and a series of meetings involving the organization's standing commissions.
In addition, another major forum will be added to the Commonwealth’s parliamentary calendar. On October 7, 2026, the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, in collaboration with the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the WHO Regional Office for Europe, will host the 2nd International Conference on "Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals." Participants will include parliamentarians from CIS countries, heads of regional health ministries, WHO experts, and representatives of the CIS Executive Committee.
Key topics of the October medical forum will include the development of primary health care, ensuring pharmaceutical security, and the role of legislators in shaping tax policies aimed at protecting public health.
