Package of Agreements Adopted at CIS Economic Council Meeting in Ashgabat
The 111th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) took place at the capital’s Ýyldyz Hotel, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Khojamyrat Geldymyradov. Held as part of the implementation of the concept for Turkmenistan’s 2026 CIS chairmanship, the meeting brought together delegations from Commonwealth nations—including First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Natalia Petkevich, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexey Overchuk, and Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Kuchkarov, as well as diplomatic representatives from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, and CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev.
During discussions held in both narrow and expanded formats, participants approved the action plan for implementing the Strategy for Ensuring Transport Security in International Transportation for 2026–2030, presented by Russian Deputy Minister of Transport Evgeny Filippov. The countries reaffirmed their intention to leverage the potential of the North-South multimodal route, approved a draft plan to harmonize national air traffic management systems, and reviewed the key directions for the development of radio navigation through 2030.
Particular attention at the meeting was paid to the formation of industrial and technological value chains, the simplification of mutual trade procedures, and the removal of market barriers. Delegates reviewed draft concepts for cooperation in producing advanced materials for high-tech industries and for the digital transformation of the timber industry complex, as well as a comprehensive plan for implementing the Interstate Program for Innovation Cooperation for 2026–2030.
Participants highly commended the work of the Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification and the Intergovernmental Council on Agro-Industrial Complex Issues. Discussions in the humanitarian sphere covered topics such as continuing medical education, joint infectious disease prevention, health and wellness, and the development of archival services.
CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev expressed gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan for organizing the event and noted the country's readiness to host the upcoming meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in October at the "Avaza" National Tourist Zone. Following the 111th meeting, a package of documents was signed, 12 of which will be submitted to the CIS Council of Heads of Government for approval. The next meeting of the Commonwealth Economic Council is scheduled for November 27, 2026, in Moscow.
