The British Council and Turkmen Universities Implement Modern English Language Teaching Standards
Turkmen universities are expanding cooperation with leading UK higher education institutions under the regional AELLCA (Accelerating English Language Learning in Central Asia) program, implemented with the support of the British Council. The initiative aims to modernize the training system for future educators (PRESETT) and enhance the professional development of practicing teachers (INSETT).
The Dovletmammed Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages (TNIWL) has become the program's key hub in the country. In partnership with Nottingham Trent University, the institute is implementing inclusive teaching methodologies. An international symposium on integrating inclusion into curricula was held at TNIWL, and a pilot professional development course for secondary school teachers took place in March and April.
The program also extends to other higher education institutions in the country through a partnership with the University of Westminster. The International University for the Humanities and Development (IUHD) has received an official certificate from the University of Westminster recognizing its success in implementing Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) teaching methodologies.
At Magtymguly Turkmen State University, British experts conducted a series of practical sessions for students and faculty members from the Department of English Language and Literature.
Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute is integrating the acquired international experience directly into its methodology for training future teachers for the regions.
The comprehensive AELLCA approach enables Turkmen universities not only to update their teaching materials but also to build a sustainable professional community of educators working in accordance with modern global standards.
