According to the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, in January 2018, the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries (TKNPZ) produced 12.2 thousand tons of petroleum coke, which is 21.8 percent more compared to the same period last year. In 2017, 146.3 thousand tons of the petroleum coke were produced in the country. TKNPZ continues to increase its production, as well as to improve its quality through increasing the depth of processing. Previously, the TNKP concluded a contract with a consortium of companies – WTL (FZE), UAE, and Wesport Trading Europe Limited, USA, - for the construction of a delayed coking unit that will increase the depth of oil refining up to 94 percenr and will provide production of 191,000 tons of high-quality petroleum coke per year. Turkmen petroleum coke has proven itself in many industrial brunches, including chemical, metallurgical, space and nuclear industries. The properties of Turkmen raw materials and its quantity allow to keep up high quality and lowest possible prices for this product as compared with the countries that are leaders in its production, though they are limited with necessary natural resources (USA, China and Japan). Demand for petroleum coke, which economists call “super-profitable", continues to increase at a growth rate, which is higher than average. Therefore, Turkmenistan aims to increase its production both for domestic use and for export.Eziz OWEZOV
