Riyadh airport attacks have killed 17 people since start of October
King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has come under 20 attacks since October 1, leaving 17 people dead and 333 others injured, according to figures presented Thursday by the Saudi-led coalition.
At a press conference in Riyadh, coalition spokesman Turki Al-Maliki detailed strikes on Houthi military targets in Yemen and showed footage of missile launch platforms and drones being destroyed.
He said coalition forces had recently destroyed 127 weapons depots in mountainous areas of Yemen along with a number of missile systems. The Saudi-led coalition called on the Houthis to halt attacks on civilian targets, including airports, ports, oil facilities and other infrastructure.
The coalition also claimed that some facilities in Sanaa, including fuel storage sites and transport infrastructure, had been repurposed for military use. The Houthis have rejected the allegations.
On the same day, the coalition said it intercepted a cruise missile over the Medina region and a drone over Khamis Mushait. The Houthis said they had not carried out any attack on Saudi territory that day.
Meanwhile, the group said coalition airstrikes hit a telecommunications facility and a school in Yemen's Taiz province on Thursday morning. Saudi authorities have not yet responded to that claim.
According to CCTV+, the latest escalation has involved mutual strikes and accusations amid Yemen's conflict, which has continued since late 2014.
