Sport events marathon on historical routes of the Great Silk Road
On Monday, February 26, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave start to mass sport competitions “The Great Silk Road”, which was opened by field-and-frack relay race along the main street of Turkmenabat, Bitarap Turkmenistan Avenue, The State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
“The Great Silk Road” competitions are conceived as an international platform for interaction of different cultures and peoples, since sport is a universal language of friendship, which open up new opportunities for cooperation.
These competitions acquire special meaning here, on the historical routes of the Great Silk Road, where people from different countries, regions and civilizations have met and communicated since ancient times.
Being a famous fan of sports and a supporter of a healthy lifestyle, the Turkmen Leader run the first leg of the relay race. Then the son of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, khyakims of regions and capital of Turkmenistan took the relay baton.
The relay race was followed by the cycling race, which gathered about one and a half thousand bicyclists, and rally.
Before the rally racing, the Head of State personally tested the track on a racing car presented to him by the famous French rally driver Jean-Louis Schlesser, now General Director and organizer of the famous rally “Africa Eco Race”.
