Turkmen athletes to demonstrate their skills at the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in UAE
The Turkmen squad will participate in the World Junior Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which will be hosted by Abu Dhabi, UAE from 1 to 5 March.
More than 700 of the best athletes aged 15-17 and 18-20 years, from 40 countries, including Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Thailand, Austria, Vietnam, Iran, Ukraine, Hungary, Sweden, Morocco, Spain and Russia will show their professionalism in Japanese martial arts on the grounds of the sports complex “Mubadala Arena”.
The matches will be held in Duo System, Ne-waza and Fighting. The championship will see also competitions in Para Jiu-Jitsu as well.
“This is one of the most important world sport championships”, said Panagiotis Theodoropoulos, president of the International Jiu-jitsu Federation (JJIF).
“The future of any sport relies on its youth. Therefore, the JJIF values this Championship for its active role in raising awareness about the importance of jiu-jitsu and fostering its position on the international sports arena”, adds the press-release of the organization.
Turkmen sportsmen led the medal standings in jiu-jitsu at the last year 5th Asian Indoor and Martial arts Games, hosted by Ashgabat, having won 19 medals - 7 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze.
