The team of scientists created the largest genealogical (family) tree, which includes a record number of people - 13 million. The tree traces 11 generations, covering a period of half a century. The team, led by scientist Yaniv Erlich, used 86 million user profiles that are publicly available on the Geni.com website. This service serves as a platform for people who want to learn the history of their families and independently create family trees, exchanging data with each other. "Through the work of many genealogists interested in the history of their families, we collectively collected a huge family tree, creating something truly unique," says Janiv Erlich, a scientist from the University of Colombia and part-time principal researcher at the genealogical company MyHeritage.Arslan KEMALOV
In addition to creating a tree, experts also conducted a study of how migration and marriage traditions (in North America) have changed over the past 500 years (from 1650 to 2000).
The results of the study, published in Science, indicate that over the past 300 years, women in North America and Europe have migrated more often than men. But compared to women, men migrated much further.
It also became clear that before the industrial revolution (1750), people were more likely to marry those who lived no more than 10 kilometers away, whereas by 1950 this distance had increased to 100 kilometers.
