Australian Taekwondo team comes to Ashgabat Games 2017 for international experience
Australia sends its team in September to the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which will be held in the capital of Turkmenistan.
Australian athletes expect a successful debut and a good result in the Games "Ashgabat 2017". For example, members of the Taekwondo team, Keshena Waterford and Ruth Hawk, recently returned home from the World Cup 2017, which was held in Muju (South Korea), where both took 17th place in their weight categories, reports olympics.com.au.
Nevertheless, the 5th Asian Games will be their first multi-sport event, imbued with the Olympic spirit, the publication notes, accenting that the competitions will be held in completely new modern arenas.
27-year-old Keshena Waterford and Ruth Hock will be joined by 18-year-old Will Afonchenko, who this year won his first international gold medal in Oakland (New Zealand), and Dina Kiriazopulos, champion of Oceania in 2016.
"I think these competitions would be the most difficult for me, like the World Cup 2015 in Russia" said D. Kiryazopulos about his participation in the the 5th Asian Games in Ashgabat.
"There are a lot of very experienced and talented athletes in the national teams participating in these competitions. But we are happy to enter the event and do everything possible to win,"- say other members of the Australian team.
On September 17th all 18 athletes from the Australian team will compete in Ashgabat in such sports as taekwondo, wrestling and weightlifting.
