Chabahar port may boost noticeably India-Central Asia trade turnover
The trade turnover between India and Central Asian countries in several years is able to reach US $ 400-500 billion, says the report “Chabahar Port’s Strategic Analysis”, recently presented in Kabul.
The figures sounds impressive, taking into account that during last a couple of years reportedly this indicator amounted to US $ 2-2.5 billion.
The paper, stressing the economic importance of Iranian Chabahar port, was worked out by the Afghanistan Institute for Strategic Studies jointly with experts from Iran and India.
The special presentation ceremony was held Sunday in Kabul and attended by Afghanistan’s Chielf Executive Office Abdullah Abdullah, Indian and Iranian ambassadors to Afghanistan, reports TOLO News.
The reports asserts that Iranian seaport on the coast of gulf of Oman will enhance trade and transit cooperation both between project member-countries and the regional nations.
Moreover, according to Iranian ambassador Mohammad Reza Bahrami, Chabahar is expected to pave the way for joint investments between Iran and neighboring Afghanistan. In this context the promising are will the steel factory, which Iran is going to open in Chabahar,
“We want to establish a steel factory in Chabahar where steel we get from domestic sources will be processed and then it will be exported abroad,” Bahrami added.
The port of Shahid Beheshti, one of the two terminals of Chabahar, was commissioned in December last year. In order to connect the port hub with the Central Asian region, the Chabahar - Zahedan - Birjand – Mashhad - Serakhs railway project is currently being realized. The railroad will run across Iran from south to north to the borders with Turkmenistan.
