Commercialization of North-South corridor is one of the top issues in the agenda of Iran. It was evident from the remarks by minister of roads and urban development Abbas Akhoundi at the 9th meeting of transport ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), held in national tourist zone Avaza. As Mehr news agency reports, speaking in the meeting, Akhoundi he made a statement that Ministerial meeting on the international North-South transport corridor will be held in October this year in Tehran. The agenda of the meeting will include issues related to the commercialization of this corridor, tariff regulation. Other relevant issues will be studied at expert level session, said Iranian minister. Necessary preliminaries and mechanisms to study commercialization of North-South rail corridor between Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran will be finalized soon, he added. Commercialization of the transport system involves the full achieving its market potential through improvement of logistics, quality of service, tariff regulation and gradual expansion of market, serviced by this transport corridor. From this point of view, the recently commissioned International Turkmenbashi Seaport will become one of the strategic points of the corridor, able to provide multimodal redistribution of transit cargo flows. The Kazakhstan - Turkmenistan - Iran railway link, completed and operationalized in 2014, also known as North–South Transnational Corridor, is a 677 km long railway line.
