“Projects such as TAPI are a prime example of the indivisibility and integrated nature of global economic development, peace and security, and the climate agenda,” said Dmitry Shlapachenko, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, at the International Investment Forum “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan”.

He took on the role of moderator of the plenary session, which was held in a hybrid format called "The Future of the Global Energy System". The meeting was attended by high-ranking representatives of the Turkmen side, heads of UN missions and other international organizations in Ashgabat. OPEC Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo, Secretary General of the Energy Charter Secretariat Guy Lenz and others spoke online.

Dmitry Shlapachenko devoted his speech to the sustainable development of the global energy system, considering climate change. He noted that Turkmenistan consistently uses the UN platform to promote and implement programs related to sustainable energy, clean energy, and energy security, which today play an important role in the development of mankind and curbing global warming.

Turkmenistan is one of the initiators of the development of the UN strategy for the development of low-carbon energy and the creation of an international "Roadmap" in the field of hydrogen energy, the diplomat stressed.

He named the TAPI mega-project, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, as a practical example in support of the implementation of the UN General Assembly resolution on stable energy transit. This transnational project should ensure the sustainable growth of the economies of the participating countries, the inflow of investments and the creation of many thousands of jobs, fairly spreading the benefits of development, emphasized Dmitry Shlapachenko.

In this regard, such projects aimed at increasing energy access in the region can be seen as a contribution to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, he added.
