John Hamilton: On the little things that matter
“We have come together to think about the little things that we can all do in our daily lives that will make a difference,” Chargé d’Affaires of the British Embassy in Ashgabat, John Hamilton, told ORIENT during the climate eco-festival held in Ashgabat on Sunday.
Hamilton noted that climate and environmental issues are especially important for young people around the world, as this is a key issue in their lives.
Those “small things” that he talked about are about such simple everyday issues as using a cotton bag instead of a plastic one, a reusable glass bottle instead of a single-use plastic one, and so on.
If you get used to thinking about your carbon footprint the same way we think about the garbage we leave behind, then there will be a conscious choice - to walk or ride a bike instead of using a car, says Hamilton.
“And when you add these small things to the actions that governments are taking – my government, the government of Turkmenistan, then it will make a difference on a global scale and help provide the planet with a safe environment for today's youth,” the diplomat said.
