Week of European Culture opens in Ashgabat
On October 24, the European Union Week of Culture opened in Ashgabat. The creative action with the slogan "Unity in Diversity" started with a solemn ceremony at the Magtymguly National Music and Drama Theater.
Acting EU Ambassador to Turkmenistan Renata Vrubel, German Ambassador Michael Uwe Bierhoff and Romanian Ambassador Ion Naval performed before the start of the musical performance, ORIENT correspondent reports.
Then a concert was held with the participation of the State Choir of Turkmenistan conducted by the Latvian conductor Vita Timermane. The choir was accompanied by the State Symphony Orchestra, which performed the music of Mozart, Mendelssohn, Rossini, Bellini, Handel and other European classics.
The European Week of Culture in Ashgabat will last until 31 October. It will include various exhibitions, concerts, lectures and other art events, as well as Italian Language Days in a number of metropolitan universities. One of the most interesting events of the Week promises to be a culinary festival.
