Ashgabat discusses the future of the energy system: new challenges and opportunities
The official opening of the conference "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan" (OGT-2022) was held, which started in Ashgabat at the site of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where the exhibition of the same name began work this morning.
The Oil and gas Forum gathered more than 500 delegates from 45 countries – representatives of government agencies, national and international companies, research centers and specialized universities, international organizations and diplomatic missions.
The conference began with a plenary session, the theme of which is "The future of the energy system: new challenges and opportunities". The honorary chairman of the meeting was the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of fuel and energy issues in the Government of Turkmenistan, Shakhym Abdrakhmanov. Among the speakers taking part in person and online are the heads of the state concern Turkmengaz, CNPC, SOCAR, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the European Energy Charter, etc.
The energy industries of different countries are forced to respond to common challenges provoked by the climate agenda and the technological revolution. Countries had to look for options to limit greenhouse gas emissions, solve infrastructure development issues in the context of digitalization, etc. The Ashgabat forum is dedicated to the search for adequate answers to these challenges, combining two main aspects of a sustainable future – long-term energy and environmental security in its agenda.
