Afghan prize-winners of Ashgabat 2017 Games awarded by President Ashraf Ghani

In the Presidential Palace of the Afghan capital, the leader of the country, Ashraf Ghani, met with medal winners of the 5th Asian Games and handed them cash awards. The Afghan team won a total of 12 medals at the Games, of which 1 is gold, 2 - silver and 10 - bronze medals. “Our athletes demonstrated good results at the Asian Games in Ashgabat,” said the Afghan leader during the award ceremony. – “This is an exemplary indicator for other spheres of life, allowing multiplying the dignity of our country.” As local media emphasized, for the first time in 80 years of Afghanistan's history, the president of the country personally awarded the athletes. This is seen as a truly good sign for the further development of Afghan sports and the indicator of social stabilization in this country. More than 200 athletes entered the IRA team at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which took place in Ashgabat from September 17th to 27th. They took part in competitions in 16 out of 21 sports and took the 26th place in team standings from 64 countries.
