About 700 dead seals have been found on the coast of the Caspian Sea in Dagestan. They were found in the Kirovsky district of the city of Makhachkala, in the area from the Oil depot to the mouth of the Sulak River, the press service of the North Caucasian Territorial Administration of Rosrybolovstvo reported.

As told in the department, their number may increase. Local specialists continue to explore the seashore throughout the republic, collect data, including laboratory studies. The causes of death have not yet been established.

Recall that in early November, over 130 dead rare Caspian seals were found on the Caspian coast in Kazakhstan. Before that, the mass death of seals occurred in 2021 – then more than 150 animals were found.

Caspian seals are listed in the Red Book.
