Iran takes final steps to restore agreement on nuclear deal – Foreign Minister
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahiyan said that the country is ready to make an agreement on the restoration of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program.
This is reported by Izvestia following the results of the meeting of the Iranian Foreign Minister with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel.
"At the meeting with Josep Borrel, we agreed on the final steps to restore the agreement. The window of opportunity for a deal with Iran is open, but not forever," the head of the Iranian foreign ministry said.
The agreement was signed in 2015 between the five member countries of the UN Security Council and Iran. It assumed the lifting of sanctions from the Islamic Republic in exchange for limiting the nuclear program. However, after the US withdrawal from the treaty in 2018 and the imposition of tough sanctions, Iran began to ignore some of the obligations of the agreement.
The parties' return to the JCPOA can largely neutralize the global energy crisis due to the flow of Iranian energy resources to the global market, thanks to the lifting of sanctions.
