Iranian oil minister announces gas contract with Turkmenistan
Iranian Oil Minister Javad Oji said that a gas contract between Iran and Turkmenistan will be signed in the near future, according to which already in June Iran will start importing 10 million cubic meters of gas per day from Turkmenistan.
He told journalists about this on the sidelines of a meeting with the head of the state concern "Turkmengaz" Batyr Amanov, Isna reports.
Under the current swap scheme, Turkmenistan supplies gas to Iran, after which Iran exports a similar amount of blue fuel to Azerbaijan.
Turkmenistan is the fourth country in the world in terms of gas reserves, and Iran also has the ability to receive 40 to 50 million cubic meters of gas per day for import and transportation within its borders, which can bring many benefits to both countries, Oji said.
Referring to Iran's old debt to Turkmenistan for gas imports, the oil minister clarified that the $1.650 million debt owned by the previous government was fully repaid by the 13th government with the participation of the Central Bank of Iran. This issue has been one of the main axes between the two countries in the field of energy.
He also said that at the talks with the Turkmen side on Tuesday in the development of oil and gas fields, agreements on the export of technical and engineering services were reached.
According to Oji, this year Iran is expected to increase its gas production by 30 to 40 million cubic meters.
