The first blue ammonia plant in Central Asia will be built in Turkmenistan by the South Korean company Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. It is expected that the signing of the deal will take place before the end of the year, and construction will begin no later than the second half of next year, writes The Korea Herald.

The plant will be located in the Balkan region. It will produce carbamide-ammonia fertilizers – derivatives of blue ammonia and will provide ample opportunities for the export of environmentally friendly "products" to Europe.

The Korean edition quotes the words of an official representative of Daewoo E&C, who said that the company will look for opportunities to further expand cooperation with Turkmenistan, which has huge reserves of natural gas. "We will be able to help maximize the country's potential based on our experience in building fertilizer plants in Morocco, Nigeria and Algeria," the businessman said.

This topic was also discussed during the meeting of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the Board of the South Korean company Daewoo Engineering & Construction Jong Won Ju, which took place in Ashgabat on May 30.

The parties named projects in the chemical industry as promising. It was about the construction of new plants - one of them for the production of ammonia and urea with a capacity of 660,000 tons per year and 1,155 tons per year, respectively. It will be located in the Balkan region.

The second project is a plant for the production of phosphate fertilizers with a capacity of 300 thousand tons per year at the Turkmenabat chemical Plant in the Lebap region.

It was noted at the meeting that the resource base of Turkmenistan allows the country to become a competitive producer and exporter of mineral fertilizers, and also determines the investment attractiveness of this industry.

The Government of Turkmenistan also invited the Korean builder to join other state projects in the construction of water treatment and desalination plants, and to take part in the construction of modern highways. The directions of the bilateral partnership will also be projects in the field of smart city development and renewable energy sources, the Korean edition says.
