Specialists from 5 Central Asian countries got acquainted with advanced water treatment technologies in South Korea. As part of the project, experts representing the water sectors of their countries, including Turkmenistan, visited the city of Cheongju, the capital of North Chungcheong Province, where they visited the local water treatment plant.

The state-of-the-art Jibuk water treatment plant is located on an area of 214,000 square meters and provides citizens with drinking tap water that is absolutely safe for health. The station is capable of treating 120,055 tons of water per day from a nearby lake, using ozone and activated carbon, in addition to the usual chlorine and coagulants in the process.

11 water management experts from Central Asia got acquainted with the operation of the station, its technologies and hygiene management, inspected the main production facilities and received appropriate training.

The visit is organized in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed in October last year between the headquarters of the Cheongju Water Supply Project and the UNESCO International Water Security Education and Research Center to promote international cooperation in the water sector.
