The 6th International Scientific Conference on the History and Breeding of the Alabay and Tazy Held in Ashgabat
The 6th International Scientific Conference, titled "Raising the Turkmen Alabay and Tazy: History, Culture, and Art," took place at the S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University, coinciding with the National Holiday of the Turkmen Alabay. The forum brought together leading cynologists, breeders, veterinary specialists, faculty members, and students specializing in the field of cynology.
As part of the conference, a specialized exhibition was held at the university’s cultural center, showcasing modern educational materials on genetics, veterinary medicine, and pedigree dog breeding, alongside works of fine and decorative art that reflect the historical image of the Alabay.
A key focus of the scientific discourse was the preservation of breed purity and the methodologies for pedigree and selective breeding, as practiced in specialized cynological centers across Ashgabat and the country’s various regions. Experts emphasized that the adoption of the Law "On Dog Breeding and Cynological Activities," combined with the inclusion of the traditions of raising the Turkmen Alabay on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, has elevated the nation’s cynological sector to an institutional, international level.
Participants at the forum outlined steps to expand international cooperation with foreign cynological associations, organize international exhibitions, and conduct joint research aimed at preserving the unique gene pool of these ancient regional breeds.
