The delegation of the University of Tsukuba headed by the president of this famous Japanese university Nagata Kyosuke visited the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan during a visit to Ashgabat on Tuesday.

In addition to the President, Vice-President and professors of the university, the delegation also included the heads of the Japan Foundation, whose mission is aimed at promoting cultural and intellectual exchange and the Japanese language abroad.

The distinguished guests were greeted with honor at the Higher Diplomatic School of Turkmenistan. After the welcoming ceremony, in the spirit of national traditions of hospitality, the Japanese delegation met with the leadership and teachers of the IMO MFA.

The talks concerned topical areas of scientific and educational cooperation between the two universities in the context of expanding international cooperation in the field of personnel training in Turkmenistan.

Rector of the Institute of International Relations Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiyev noted that for more than 15 years of work of the IMO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, 30 documents on cooperation of the university with higher educational institutions and diplomatic academies of 27 countries have been signed. Within the framework of these agreements, joint activities and projects have been implemented.

The dialogue with Japan is also developing consistently, mutual study visits of teachers and students are organized, and students of the Turkmen School of Diplomacy have repeatedly traveled to the Land of the Rising Sun since 2017 within the framework of the international youth exchange program.

Japanese is taught as a second foreign language at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. In the educational programs of the Institute, within the framework of the courses, topics related to Japanese culture, history, literature and foreign policy are taught in detail.

The Rector of the IMO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan also cited as an example his visit to Japan in April 2023, during which he met and negotiated with the Director General of the Japanese Institute of International Relations, representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). As part of this trip, a Turkmen-Japanese round table on youth policy was held at Soka University.

In order to strengthen the partnership with the University of Tsukuba, Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiyev put forward several proposals for consideration by its leadership. In particular, he expressed interest in the Institute's library receiving books and scientific literature published by the University of Tsukuba. Also, the Rector of the IIMFA MFA proposed to hold a joint online scientific seminar on the issues of Turkmen-Japanese relations.

Considering the opening of the Master's degree in Digital Diplomacy in 2021, as well as the Department of Digital Systems and Communications at the Institute of International Relations, it would be relevant and in demand for Japanese experts to conduct lectures for IIMFA teachers and students in these areas.

In order to study the best practices of the University of Tsukuba, it was proposed to establish systematic contacts between the Faculty of International Relations of IIMFA, the School of Japanese Language and Culture and the School of Business Administration and Social Sciences of the University, as well as to organize mutual visits of experts and teachers of the two universities.

Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiyev also offered to organize online lectures by scientists of the University of Tsukuba, who are Nobel Prize laureates, for the faculty and students of the IIMFA MFA and also invited professors of the Faculty of Multilateral International Studies of the University to give online lectures.

7.jpg The proposals were met with the interest and support of the President of the University of Tsukuba Nagata Kyosuke, who expressed confidence that today's meeting will be an important event in the development of Turkmen-Japanese scientific and educational ties and cooperation in the field of training high-level specialists.

Then the Japanese delegation got acquainted with the complex of buildings of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, also visited the UNESCO Culture of Peace club operating here, the educational TV studio and the Ak Oi platform, where the guests were welcomed by the finalists of the intellectual contest "Young Messengers of Peace" who dream of becoming diplomats.
