A meeting of the CIS Information Council was held in Bishkek


The XXIX meeting of the Council of Heads of State Information Agencies of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held on Tuesday, September 12, in Bishkek. The meeting was attended by heads of news agencies of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, as well as representatives of the CIS Executive Committee.
Representatives of agencies of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan were present as invited participants.
At the meeting, TASS CEO Andrey Kondrashov was unanimously elected Chairman of the CIS Information Council.
The meeting participants discussed the results of the activities of state information agencies for 2022-2023, priority areas of work for 2024.
In particular, the issues related to information support announced in the CIS in 2024 as the Year of the Volunteer Movement and in 2025 as the Year of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the Year of Peace and Unity in the Fight against Nazism were considered. Within the framework of the Commonwealth, it is planned to pay attention to preserving the memory of the contribution of the peoples of the Commonwealth to Victory and perpetuating the exploits of our ancestors, as well as projects such as cultural, youth and sports capitals of the CIS. In 2024, they will be Samarkand, Tashkent and Gyumri, respectively.

At the meeting, readiness was expressed to direct efforts to preserve the traditions, cultural and historical heritage uniting the peoples of the CIS member states, as well as to promote those values that strengthen friendly relations between them and serve as a basis for trusting and fruitful cooperation with partner states, the CIS Executive Committee said in a statement on its website.
Coverage of the sports games of the CIS countries held in Minsk was cited as a positive example of information interaction between the CIS countries. The expediency of using this practice in the future when organizing and conducting educational and cultural programs on the territory of the Commonwealth under the flag of the CIS was emphasized.
The topic of the struggle for the purity of the information space was discussed separately. In this direction, the parties agreed to start developing joint mechanisms to combat fakes and external information stuffing. The general opinion was expressed that the purpose of these attacks is to undermine and divide the CIS states. In this regard, it is considered necessary to confront this threat together.
The next meeting of the CIS Information Council was decided to be held in Moscow in September 2024. These days, the 120th anniversary of TASS will be celebrated, and the forum may be timed to this date.
