Referees from Turkmenistan officiated matches in the AFC Cup
The matches of the first round of the group stage of the second most important club tournament in Asia, the AFC Cup 2023/24, took place in Malaysia. Two Turkmen FIFA referees took part in these matches - Charymurad Gurbanov and Resul Mamedov.
Charymurad Gurbanov became a reserve referee in the Group G match between Terengganu (Malaysia) and Central Coast Mariners (Australia).
The match ended in victory for the Malaysian club with a score of 1:0. The main referee of the match was Mahmoud Salim Saeed Humaid Al Majarafi from Oman.
Resul Mamedov made his debut in the AFC Cup as a reserve referee in the Group C match between Sabah (Malaysia) and Hougang United (Singapore). The match ended with a score of 3:1 in favor of the Malaysian club. The match was refereed by Australian Jonathan Adam Barreiro.
The participation of Turkmen referees in the AFC Cup helps to increase the authority and image of Turkmen football in the international arena.
