Modernization of customs mechanisms and improvement of export procedures became one of the main topics of the three-day seminar held in Ashgabat from October 3 to 5.

The participants of the training organized by the OSCE Center in Ashgabat were representatives of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Activity, the Central Bank and Commercial Banks, the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, as well as other interested structures.

Experts reviewed the best practices of the OSCE participating States on bringing customs mechanisms in line with international standards. They also discussed issues of improving regulatory mechanisms controlling export procedures, digitalization of customs procedures, development of the port community system and WTO tariff policy.

The gathered experts stressed the importance of an effective regulatory framework in international trade and shared their views on customs supervision in free economic zones and free trade zones. The seminar also addressed issues of export documentation, trade facilitation and single Window measures.

"The OSCE attaches great importance to efforts to meet the growing need to maintain and further develop regional and international economic ties, including by facilitating trade, accelerating economic development and growth, diversifying exports of value-added goods and, ultimately, building regionally diversified economies," said at a meeting with the participants of the meeting John McGregor the head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.

It should be noted that over the past few years, the OSCE Center in Ashgabat has been actively developing cooperation with the Government of Turkmenistan in the field of economic interconnection, trade facilitation, modernization of customs procedures and improvement of export mechanisms.
