The world's first ultra-high-speed backbone communication network has been launched in China
China has launched the world's first next-generation high-speed Internet backbone, China Daily reports.
This has become an important milestone in the global Internet infrastructure.
The ultra-high-speed backbone communication network was developed by Tsinghua University in cooperation with China Mobile, Huawei, as well as the Chinese Educational and Research Network. The network covers over 3,000 kilometers, connecting Beijing, Wuhan in Hubei Province and Guangzhou in Guangdong Province.
The backbone network with a data transfer rate of 1200 gigabits per second (1.2 T) is capable of transmitting 150 high-definition films in just 1 second. At the same time, the transmission efficiency is 10 times higher.
According to experts, it was assumed that this data transfer rate would be reached by about 2025, but Chinese experts reached this goal earlier.
The backbone provides independent control over software and hardware components, which puts its overall technological capabilities at the forefront in the world.
The representative of the Institute of Network Sciences and Cyberspace of Tsinghua University, Professor Xu Mingwei, compared the next-generation high-speed backbone communication network with a railway.
"Previously, 10 railways were required to accommodate overcrowded passengers, but now one high—speed railway is enough," he noted.
A backbone communications network is a high—speed data link that can provide network services to Internet service providers.
