The Turkmenaragatnashyk Agency held an event in Ashgabat in honor of World Sustainable Transport Day
The Turkmenaragatnashyk Agency of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan organized an event in Ashgabat in honor of the World Sustainable Transport Day, celebrated on November 26.
Conference participants discussed the important role of safe, sustainable transport systems in achieving the 2030 Agenda, in particular in promoting sustainable economic growth, improving social well-being and increasing international cooperation.
In his speech, Deputy Chairman of the Turkmenaragatnashyk Agency Nurmyrat Rejebov spoke about the efforts of Turkmenistan in the development of sustainable transport and the country’s international initiatives in this industry. In this regard, he informed about the Turkmenaragatnashyk projects as part of the implementation of transport diplomacy of Turkmenistan.
Deputy Director of the Turkmenpost postal company Ykhlas Amandurdyev spoke about the improvement of digital services in the country in accordance with the Law of Turkmenistan “On Electronic Documents, Electronic Document Management and Digital Services”. Thus, he introduced the electronic platform developed by the company’s specialists. Using various types of transport, Turkmen Post carries out reliable and timely delivery of goods.
The resolution on the establishment of World Sustainable Transport Day was adopted on the initiative of Turkmenistan at the 70th plenary meeting of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly. It was co-authored by 67 countries.
It was on November 26, 2016 that the first UN global conference on sustainable transport was held in Ashgabat.
The UN General Assembly resolution notes the importance of cooperation in increasing transport connectivity through the creation of an integrated transport system through the development of reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, the exchange of best practices in order to optimize the development of an interconnected network of highways, roads, streets, railways, waterways, airlines, transport interchanges /transshipment nodes and ports.
