The efforts to implement the international transport transit project Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey or Lapis Lazuli Corridor are gaining momentum. Afghanistan is ready to create a technical group for the implementation of Lapis Lazuli Corridor project, worth up to US $ 2 billion. In addition, the representatives of the participating countries will hold a working meeting in the near future, TOLO News reports with reference to the Afghan Ministry of Commerce and Industries. According to Mohammad Yahya Akhlaqi, head of the transit department of the ministry, “The technical groups will help to resolve obstacles in the way of business and transit through Lapis Lazuli route, which will stretch over 3,000 km. They will deal with visa procedures for businessmen and drivers of freight vehicles as well. It is expected that their activities of the groups will trigger export supplies from Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Georgia to European countries. The Agreement on the transit transport corridor Lapis Lazuli was signed by five countries on the sidelines of the 7th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA) held in Ashgabat two weeks ago. Recently the parliament of Turkmenistan has ratified this instrument.
