Afghan President Ashraf Ghani met on Saturday morning in Kabul with the head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, Rashid Meredov. The President of the IRA expressed gratitude to the Turkmen government for supporting regional economic projects related to Afghanistan, as well as for the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline through which Turkmen gas will flow through Afghanistan to Pakistan and to India. Ghani said that he was looking forward to starting practical work on this mega-project on the Afghan land. The President of the IRA noted that TAPI is not just a gas pipeline, but also a parallel line of power transmission and fiber-optic communications. The head of Afghanistan highly appreciated Turkmenistan's efforts to develop major projects and strengthen stability in the region. He stressed that the Afghan people cherish friendly relations and cooperation with their northern neighbor. Ghani added that the benefits of large joint projects would cover all countries in the region. President Ghani instructed officials to work closely with various bilateral committees to expedite the practical work on TAPI.
