In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), artificial intelligence (AI) enabled drones were utilized to determine the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan in 2025.

This decision was enacted by the country's Fatwa Council to enhance the accuracy of crescent moon observations, which dictate the beginning of Ramadan.

The drones conducted lunar monitoring during the evening of February 28, 2025, corresponding to the 29th day of Sha'ban in the Hijri year 1446.

AI technology facilitated the minimization of errors associated with traditional observation methods, which are subject to geographical location and weather conditions.

In 2025, the Holy month of Ramadan commences on March 1 and concludes on March 29.
