US and Central Asia representatives discussed security issues


Representatives of the United States and Central Asian countries held talks at C5+1 format in New York, United States Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan participated in the meeting from American side. The Central Asian five countries were represented by the heads of the foreign policy departments of Kazakhstan Kairat Abdrakhmanov, of Kyrgyzstan - Erlan Abdyldaev, of Tajikistan - Sirodzhidin Aslov and the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN, Aksoltan Atayeva. The focus of the C5+1 member countries was on security issues in the Central Asian region and counteraction to terrorism, extremism and cross-border crime. There was also an exchange of views on the potential of multilateral partnership in different areas and ways of implementing joint projects aimed at bringing regional cooperation to a new level. The format of the C5+1 cooperation was established in 2015 by America, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The main goal of the format is the development of regional partnership.
