Turkmenistan will officially join the International Council of Military Sports in April
The official accession ceremony of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan to the International Council of Military Sports (CISM) will be held within the framework of the General Assembly and Congress of the organization, which will take place on April 16-23, 2018 in the Dominican Republic. High results of the Turkmen soldiers-athletes at the Ashgabat-2017 Games make it clear that they are able to bring a lot of sports awards to the country participating in major sporting events. CISM was founded in 1948, being one of the most authoritative and influential sports organizations in the world, along with the International Olympic Committee. Having a goal of uniting all the soldiers of the world under the motto "friendship through sport", the CISM organizes dozens of international tournaments and championships, creating an opportunity for servicemen from more than 135 countries to show their sports talents. The International Council of Military Sports is considered the most influential sports organization in the world after the International Olympic Committee. It is the organizer of the most important international sports events, including Military World Games. As an analog of the Olympic Games (summer and winter), they are held once every four years. The 6th World Summer Games were held in 2015 in South Korea. The next will be held in October 2019 in China, Wuhan. Competitions will be held in 27 sports, and only five disciplines of them are military. For the first time the list of sports of the Military World Games included competitions in gymnastics and tennis among men, as well as badminton and table tennis.
