Ashgabat began preparations for the 2018 IWF World Championships

In November this year, Turkmenistan will host the 2018 IWF World Championships. The request of our country to host a high-level tournament was carried unanimously by the Executive Committee of International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). At present, the National Weightlifting Federation of Turkmenistan is actively working with the IWF, negotiating various issues on organization of the championship of the planet. The main point is to hold the competition at the highest level. According to data provided by the country's federation, about 800 athletes from 100 countries will come to Ashgabat for weightlifting tournament. One of the innovations of the forthcoming tournament, that athletes will compete not in 8 weight categories, as it was before, but in 10, which will allow to reveal even more new names in this popular sport. Turkmen athletes, including winners of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, will be represented in all categories, and the list of the national team is still being formed. Prize-winners of the IWF World Championships in Ashgabat will get the right to participate in the weightlifting competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.Ayjahan ATABALLIYEVA
